Story

"The wind rustles through the fir trees
and little streams gurgle towards the valley."

Once you have left the major roads and are deep in the south of Germany, the meadows are already a bit greener, the sky is a bit bluer and the air is a bit clearer than elsewhere. The story of our beer starts in the Oberallgäu (Upper Allgäu) district, Bavaria’s southernmost tip.

Once you leave your car here at the foot of the Grünten, the massive guardian of the Allgäu, take a deep breath and set off by foot towards the mountain, the impressive alpine landscape soon casts a spell over you. The wind rustles through the fir trees and little streams gurgle towards the valley. With every step you become more relaxed and your view widens for the little things by the wayside.

Soon the first “Alms” (alpine pastures) come into view, and the realm of beer sommelier Hans-Hermann and Berni, our master brewer, starts here. The highest and arguably most extraordinary brewing site for German beer is located at an altitude of about 1,000 metres. A converted former cable car station serves as a brewing site there. Here the two connoisseurs can pursue their passion undisturbed and develop beers that are full of character, brewed strictly according to the Bavarian Purity Law and traditional craftsmanship. Pure alpine spring water is the most important ingredient. Hops and malt are added, and they shape the character of the beer, depending on variety and cultivation.
